In the kitchen, a tongue and groove ceiling with a beam dividing living area and kitchen was added, and black cabinets with butcher block counters gave the space a cozy, mountain feel. The waterfall island and range backsplash are Silestone- Bohemian Flame.
The primary space was located at the far end of the house which was added on to the original ranch. Pulling in the greens and organic elements made it feel more cohesive with the rest of the home.
Since there were no windows on the “views” side of the bedroom, a full height wall mural, depicting the mountains that wrap this area was installed. The adjoining primary bathroom was reconfigured to create a spacious spa like space bathed in soothing greens.
We punched up the fun in a shared hallway bathroom with funky wall covering depicting woodland creatures and fungi. Textural tile work in the shower adds a touch of sophistication.
French doors were added to the Laundry/workout space and to a guest bedroom at the back of the home. A new deck and pergola were added to connect the two spaces and give substance to an awkward outdoor area.
Town Mountain Home
This 1950’s ranch had stunning long range mountain views and city skyline, but a not so stunning interior. Our goal was to up the game in the interior to match the vistas out of the window.
Keeping the pallet soothing and earthy was the key to meshing the two.
Shades of green were chosen as the predominant drivers and layering in plenty of wood elements and organic textures all set off by black accents was the icing.
Carrying in the exterior paint color, the dining room was color drenched in Benjamin Moore Dark Olive. It was the perfect backdrop to set off the 10 foot long table that was custom built by a local craftsperson who sustainably sourced the wood from the Historic Biltmore Estate grounds.
The mantle on the redesigned fireplace was hewed from an 1800’s era barn, sourced from a neighboring town. A new stone surround added substance to the existing fireplace.
“The transformation
speaks for itself…”
“Working with Shawn on our home was one of the best decisions we made. From day one, she took the time to understand us — our inspiration for the house and the way our family lives day to day. She has a remarkable eye. She could walk into a tired room and find both the beauty and efficiency hiding inside it. The transformation speaks for itself: the once stale entry became a green dining room with exposed beams and a live-edge table that became the heart of the house; the dim living room became a moody, inviting space anchored by a stone fireplace and the cramped kitchen now opens to a butcher-block pass-through that frames the mountain from the sink. Even our guest bathroom turned into something with its own personality. All of it serves our family and guests perfectly. Beyond the design itself, Shawn was a true partner through the construction process. She managed the build, brought in trusted contractors and tradespeople, and kept everything moving when things got complicated (as renovations always do). Her referrals were excellent, and her presence on site made a huge difference in how the project came together. She's talented, thoughtful, easy to work with, and genuinely invested in the people she designs for. We couldn't recommend Shawn and Align Design more highly — and we're lucky she became part of our Asheville family.”
