Fab Furniture Friday – Mid Century Circle Back

Purists, look away! These mid century pieces have been reincarnated into more funky versions of their past selves.

Although some mid century enforcers may recoil at the thought of repurposing, rather than restoring, less fanatic fans are drawn to these classic pieces, made more approachable by the fun, unconventional way that they have been re imagined through upholstery.

Take a look at some of the far out, fabric, finishes that make these pieces so fresh and hip.

Located right here in Asheville, is a funky little shop that we discovered called Sunnyside Trading Company.  They offer a little BoHo with every piece that they source and create.

This mid century chair has been updated with a classic, fabric from the collection of Charles and Ray Eames.  And speaking of Eames…  how about Ikat?

How about a riff on the Eames Molded Plywood Chair?

The before and after shots of these chairs from Chairloom show how new fabric can bring a breath of fresh air to any dining room.

Chairloom’s philosophy is about looking past the frazzled fabric, to the bones of a piece, and then bringing it back to life in a fresh way.

So the next time you are shopping for a new upholstery piece, consider an oldster in need of a new outlook on life.
